Biography
Who I am
I design electronic products and take them into production: from the first idea to the assembly line.
I have been doing this for over thirty years. Schematics, boards, prototypes, testing, industrialisation, and design planned from the outset to be testable and manufacturable. It is a trade judged on one thing only: whether the product actually ships and holds up at scale.
In 1993 I co-founded Telsey S.p.A. In 1999 I invented the fibre-to-the-home access devices for Fastweb. In 2002 I founded Visionee S.r.l.
What I work on
The common thread is electronics applied to things that move and things that measure: radio frequency, optics and optoelectronics, signal processing, power electronics. In recent years mostly electric traction and automotive: high power inverters, axial flux motors, batteries and the systems that watch over them, three-dimensional optical sensing, and test and measurement equipment.
How I work
A complex product always has a team around it, and disciplines that have to talk to each other: electronics, mechanics, thermal, software, manufacturing. A substantial part of my work has been choosing the right people, helping them grow, and keeping different skills aligned on the same goal.
Away from work
I have been a radio amateur since 1975, callsign IZ3HRM, and I enjoy designing software defined radios. Chemistry, biology and space propulsion hold my attention.
